Our contingents fill the air color and energy and include percussionists, live music, vocalists, dancers, stilters, giant puppets and lavish floats Loco Bloco current holds two 1 st place, three 2 nd place and two 3 rd place Grand Prize titles.
In continuation of Carnaval celebrations, we participate in the San Francisco Pride Parade to show solidarity for our LGBTQQ youth and community. Loco Bloco was awarded the ãAbsolutely Fabulous Overall Contingentä for our 2007 presentation.

Loco Bloco's theater workshops for teens and young adults offer students the skills to develop their own dramatic sketches through a variety of writing and improvisational exercises. Scripts developed in our theater workshops are rehearsed and infused with original music, dance and video to create full-length theater productions. Pass productions such as Speak Their Names, Burn American Dreams, Illusion, Livin' Loco and most recently Schoolhouse Musical: A Tale From The School Of Hard Knocks And Loud Beats continue our commitment to social justice by addressing issues of gentrification, immigration, sexual identity racism, sexism, physical and mental health, global politics and community. These productions showcase the talents and creativity of young people of color and provide them with a platform to express their ideas, emotions and experiences with important social issues.
Every March, Loco Bloco in collaboration with The Women's Building and Mission Girls, and many others, join together to present a powerful 3-night event celebrating the power of women and girls. Young women artists and their mentors/elders explore such issues as domestic violence, war, sexism, gender roles, and history. Over 900 community members attend annually. These ãin-your-faceä living museums and performances become a platform for healing of women of all ages.
Members of Loco Bloco are recognized as cultural ambassadors representing Bay Area youth culture through tours and exchanges both international and domestic. Loco Bloco has traveled to Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Big Island of Hawaii, the American Southwest and Midwest, Northern California. During these journeys, the ensemble connects and performs with local artists, youth organizations, and communities sharing cultures, ideas and art. Most recently, 30 members traveled to Guatemala and participated in the Caja Ludica Encuentro de Arte Comunitario in Guatemala City.
