The Carnival of Venice needs no introduction. For almost three weeks the famous “city on the water” turns into a place of endless festivities: the beginning of festivities is counted forty days after the Catholic Easter, and the end – on the eve of Lent.
On the first day, you can enjoy a magnificent show over the water near the Three Arches Bridge. Everyone in attendance is treated to a free meal of Venetian cuisine. And the next day, a colorful boat procession takes place along the large Venetian canal. Then the main events unfold on the main stage of the iconic Piazza San Marco.
The masquerade begins with the ancient ritual of “Volo della Colombina”: a paper dove is launched from the bell tower, exploding and showering the audience with colorful confetti. The theatrical performances and dances on the parade ground spill over to the neighboring streets and take over almost the entire city. In addition, many of the ancient castles of Venice during this time organize numerous private balls and private social receptions.
