The Carnival in Tenerife is the second largest in the world after the Brazilian Carnival.
About a million people flock to the small town of Santa Cruz de Tenerife each year for this spectacle in the Canary Islands. For a week, thousands of people take to the streets to take part in this grand costume show.
The parade is accompanied by the rousing rhythms of Caribbean music and, at night, by electronic music. The world gazes over the performances, one after the other, from mid-January to the second half of February. The main event is the gala – a concert of the proclamation of the queen among children and adults, “murgas” and “comparsas” – humorous performances of musicians, as well as performances of bands and street carnival bands, free open festivals, the cavalcade of costume contest winners “Coso”, the final procession “Buried Sardine” and numerous fireworks.
Participating in the carnival is sure to bring excitement and positive emotions, and the locals will make you laugh uncontrollably.
